From The Carthage Press:  The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a Texas man at the construction site of a new senior center in Carthage.

The man, Luis R. Estrada, 29, El Paso, Texas, died on Saturday at Mercy Joplin Hospital after he was injured in a fall at the site of Oak Pointe of Carthage, a new senior residential care center in the Myers Park development off Airport Drive just west of the roundabout, according to Jasper County Coroner Rob Chapel. Carthage Fire Chief Roger Williams said the fire department and ambulance were called to the scene at 9:13 am Saturday at 230 W. Airport Drive.

Chapel said the his investigator was told that Estrada was declared dead on arrival at the hospital and the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

In a news release, OSHA said it was investigating the death and that Estrada was an employee of Munda Hernandez Construction, El Paso, Texas.

OSHA said initial reports indicate the worker fell out of a three-sided box that was sitting on the forks of a tractor. The employee fell out of the box approximately 11 feet and the box then fell, striking him on the head.
