Todd Jacobs, Veteran ‘Problem-Solver,’ Starts Facility Advisor Practice

By on February 8, 2019

Respected industry veteran Todd Jacobs, a self-described “generalist” with broad experience in both renovation and new construction, has formed an owner-focused facility consulting practice.

After 35 years of being a principal/project manager, director of design and COO for several  architectural firms, Jacobs decided it was time to start his own business — which will be called TRJ-Facility Advisor —  “with the goal of being  a trusted advisor and leading the process from the owner’s side.”

Jacobs has a large portfolio of projects in  both renovation and new construction. Most of his work is in education, healthcare and corporate. He said that he hopes to continue with these types of institutional and non-profit clients in his new venture.

“Working with clients to solve their facility problems is what I really like to do.  I hope that by becoming an owner’s representative, I can use my many years of experience and continue to guide clients through the process,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs’ most recent position, prior to forming TRJ, was as vice president KAI-Design & Build, which he joined in 2016. He was a principal at Bates & Associates,  Architects, which was purchased by Clayco, from 2014-2016. For 18 years he served in a variety of positions at Christner, Inc., and was a principal of that firm at the time he left.

Jacobs has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University.

He is a Fellow in the Health Facility Institute, the highest level of individual affiliation.  Jacobs is NCARB certified, LEED certified, and licensed in Missouri and Illinois.

He is a past President of the AIA and continues to serve on many committees.  Jacobs is on the Professional Advisory Board at Kansas State College of Architecture and the Advisory Board for the Construction Forum He has been a guest lecturer at Washington University School of Architecture.
