When the “gray tsunami” hits and the older generation leaves our industry, how do you plan to attract and train the younger generation to prepare estimates for your company? We suggest you join the local chapter of the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) for educational activities, renewing or establishing relationships with people in the St. Louis construction family and learn of the benefits of membership.

In ASPE’s role as the “construction industry’s leader and recognized authority for professional estimating,” it is our job to provide programs that attract new talent to the profession, further the development of current estimators, and help define what an estimator is.

Our September 21st meeting topic is “Marketing and Social Media – What an Estimator Needs to Know” presented by Cameron Beattie of Tarlton.

Click here to register for our September 21st meeting.

Our October 19th meeting topic will be “Preparing for a Buyout Scope Clarification Meeting with a GC” presented by Paul Henkler of Paric. Both meetings will be held at Chris’s Pancake House at 7:30 am. Registration for this meeting will be available soon.

Please look for other educational programs our chapter will offer in the coming months. If you need additional information please contact our Chapter President, John Smith of The Lawrence Group at john.smith@thelawrencegroup.com or to register for a meeting find the “invite” on EventBrite, Facebook or LinkedIn.

The objective of the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) is to promote development and application of education, professional judgment, and skills within the industry we serve. Estimators must perform under the highest principles of ethical conduct as it relates to the protection of the public, clients, employers, and others in this industry and in related professions.

The St. Louis Metro Chapter #19 of ASPE was established in 1976 to promote estimating in the St. Louis metropolitan area. We offer the following opportunities:

  1. A professional society which promotes the highest standards and ethics in the practice of construction estimating.
  2. Continuing education through seminars and lectures on construction-related topics.
  3. Our national publication, Estimating Today, focusing on what is trending nationally in the construction and estimating field.
  4. Offering quality speakers at our monthly meetings, jobsite tours, and the highlight of the year, the annual estimating academy.
  5. An opportunity to become recognized as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) through the society’s stringent certification program.
  6. Fellowship by interaction with other local professionals on a monthly and annual basis.

The proper Education, Ethics, Standards, Certification and Fellowship lead to the ultimate goals of education and professionalism within our community. Join today and contact us with any questions you may have about membership.
