From St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  More than 2,000 people from across the country will be downtown next week for a series of briefings, panel discussions and social gatherings centered on the freight industry.

The St. Louis Regional Freightway, the organization dedicated to promoting and expanding the metro area’s role in shipping, is co-sponsoring the conference.

The event, called FreightWeek STL, will be at America’s Center and the nearby Marriott St. Louis Grand.

“It’s an opportunity to spotlight the region’s role as a global logistics hub,” said Mary Lamie, the regional freightway’s executive director. “It’s an opportunity to raise our profile.”

Lamie said the event will be held in conjunction with the annual Inland Marine Expo, a 250-exhibit trade show for companies and people in the river commerce industry that has been held here for five years.

Also on tap next week is this year’s annual conference of the Institute for Trade and Transportation Studies, made up of state transportation officials from Missouri and eight other states.

The three organizations are working together on many FreightWeek activities, Lamie said.
