From St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Sharo Shirshekan has purchased the former Mineral Area Regional Medical Center for $13.

Shirshekan, who operates nursing homes throughout the state, plans to turn the former hospital into a mental health complex that will serve adults, children and seniors.

The nearly 43,000-square-foot building in St. Francois County was sold to Mineral Area Place, according to documents submitted to Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services. Within those documents, Shirshekan signs as the manager for Mineral Area Place.

BJC purchased Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in 2015. The two were competitors in St. Francois County, about 70 miles south of St. Louis.

About nine months after purchasing Mineral Area, BJC said it planned to close the facility, leaving only one hospital available in a county of about 66,000 residents.

In documents submitted to the state, Shirshekan’s attorney said the facility would be used as a 48-bed inpatient facility to treat adults and children with mental illness.

There will also be a portion of the former hospital that is used as a 65-bed skilled nursing facility to provide long-term care to older adults with a history of mental illness.

In sales documents, BJC said the building potentially contained “significant amounts of absestos, mold and other potentially hazardous materials.”
